Many companies I’ve worked with have great difficulties getting outsourcing up and running. So should it be any less difficult if you should outsource parts of your life?
My take on this is that you should become a knowledge worker. This meaning that though you are not going to do the task yourself, you should know a little about how to do it.
So if you want to outsource the implementation of a new website, you should at least know what steps this would involve. You should know about content management systems, html, hosting etc. You don’t need to know everything like an expert, but if you know about the stuff that the outsourcer should do, you can:
- better describe the job you want done
- better evaluate the work you get from the outsourcer
- better comment on the outsourcer’s work during production
And you will end up with a much better product in the end.
And because you don’t need to do the task yourself, you have time to research some new exciting stuff that you want to outsource
.
So become the knowledge worker, know the stuff, but let others do it.
