Last month I blogged about my business Get A Shop that provides Magento Webshops to the Scandinavian market at really low prices.
I have done a little search engine optimization on getashop.dk, but not much. So currently I shuffling between page 1 and 2 when I search for “Magento webshop” in Google. Notice that this is in the Danish version of Google that assumes that I am looking for a Danish site. The website is hosted on a US server so perhaps this is a problem. Also there is alot of competition for those keywords in Denmark.
So… My surprise was big when I entered the keyword “Magento webshop” in my browser’s (Safari on Mac) searchbox. I was taken to the .com version of Google and my blog entry about Get A Shop was NUMBER 4!
Oh my… This is totally unbelievable and I am not sure that this is because I am searching from Denmark (and Google then prioritize sites in Danish… remember that the site is hosted on a US server).
Since I am not sure how this happened and for how long this will last (or how many actually get this as hit number 4), so I took a screenshot of this as proof 
Are there any SEO experts out there who can explain this?! I’m a bit baffled…
UPDATE
Currently this post is number 3 in Google on the keyword “Magento webshop”. Man. Perhaps I should transfer the Get A Shop site to WordPress. It is currently in Joomla, but if this WordPress blog can rank so good in Google, a site dedicated to Magento webshops in a local market should rank even better

I think it is on “auto login”, but was not logged in when I did the search. Does this have anything to do with my position in Google?
You’re on #22 when I search from Germany on google.com (en / logged out) for “magento webshop”. Does it bring you any traffic?

@Simon: Not anything worth mentioning (at least not yet). But it surprised me since I am way higher than the Get A Shop site in the Danish market. Also the Get A Shop site is in Danish (and for the Danish market), while My 4 Hours are targetted more broadly, so I don’t expect much traffic going from My 4 Hours to Get A Shop.
It should not have any influence on your search ratings if you are not logged in. But Google will individualize your search results based on your search history if you are logged in to your Google Account.

Beside WordPress itself (and the standard SEO plugin), I have only done very little offsite link building. So I am a bit confused. If I could only transfer this nice ranking to my Danish Get A Shop site, I would be a happy man.

I can see several reasons. First of all, its actually not really a competetive keyword.. Its estimated with around 590 global monthly searches, and the Adwords CPC is extremely low. So seeing it from a selling point – theres really no reason to target this keyword at all..
Another point is that Google LOVES WordPress.. In my experience they are extremely easy to get indexed and get a good ranking with.
I’d like to hear if you actually get any significant traffic through the keyword “Magento Webshop”? 590 monthly searches is pretty low. And the CPC doesnt make it a profitable keyword to target..
@Christian: Yess I don’t think the word “webshop” is as common in the English language as it is in the Danish. My main concerns is also that I am ranking pretty poorly with my Danish site in the Danish Google version (I am on page two), while I haven’t done anything with this blog an only have one entry where I mention the keyword.
This is not a keyword I am targetting internationally, only locally in Denmark. It is just really irritating being on page 2 with the site that counts but number 2 (on page 1) with the blog mentioning it

Hm, I dont think you’ll make a lot of money selling webshops in Denmark. Country is simply too small.
Maybe if you had a sales-department it could work.
But I don’t think webshops are something a lot of people would consider; let alone chose your specific product.
Oh and webshop in the US is more commonly known as “online shop”.

Regarding the “magento webshop” and “online shop”. Yes this is also what I have concluded. I was just very surprised about ranking so high in the US when it is a very competitive keyword here in Denmark
Well congratulation on the “success”… It’s always nice when you gets a better position on google. Can you see an increase in the numbers of visitors after you got a better position?
@Anders: Regarding more visitors… Not really. My site is in Danish and as someone else pointed out, the word “webshop” is not really that used in the US.
Just an update. I now have the #4 position for this keyword in the Netherlands, for a 1 page website. The word “webshop” is being used a lot in the Netherlands.
I think if you want it on a good position in Google.dk you should host your website in Denmark and write it in Danish
@Nils: yeah, I really like to have my danish site getashop.dk. While this is also hosted on a US server, it is written in Danish (and it is ok to only be found in Google.dk). I was just amazed that this blog that has nothing to do with Magento and me just mentioning, went so well. But as I learned, no one in the big world uses the word “webshop” (besides apperently th Netherlands and Denmark)
Very nice to see! As Nils told in Holland the term webshop is used very often. We are holding the postition 2 or 5….very strange but it can change every day by the big “G”
